Do More of What Lights You Up

Published on

This weekend amidst all the Christmas happenings: house cleaning, shopping and the traditional preparations, I decided to take time out to nourish my being.

For a couple of weeks now, I've been yearning some solitude and tender self-loving care. There was a full on internal battle trying to decide whether to take time away, during the current season or stay and do what was expected. I eventually decided to answer my heart's call and take a hiatus.

I am so grateful and thankful to my brother Carlon, who willingly accommodated me at a property he manages, literally in the middle of no where. I really wanted somewhere that was secluded and close to nature and the property was that and so more.

Over the years, after experiencing several episodes of burn out, I've come to the realization that doing more of what nourishes my being, helps me to stay aligned, balanced and performing at my best. I'm also able to be there for those who need me because my cup is full and running over. "You can't pour from an empty cup." - Unknown.

I've experimented with different activities and practices over time but found that these are the things that nourish me and helps to light me up:

  1. Spending time in solitude and quietness
  2. Being in nature
  3. Meditating
  4. Reading
  5. Writing/Journaling
  6.  Researching
  7. Listening to soothing sounds and music
  8. Spending quality time with those who inspire me
  9. Exercising
  10. Spending time with my dog Ty

The more time I spend engaged in these activities, the more energized and alive I am.

Finding the balance between giving your attention to your responsibilities and doing what nourishes you is important. It is critical to the sustenance of your  being and determines how you show up in the world.

Make it a regular practice to take time to fill your cup daily with the things that light you up and nourishes you. Your being will forever be grateful you did.
