Life is Happening for You, Not to You!

Published on

This morning, I got up a bit heavy with a couple challenges weighing heavy on my mind. I immediately became aware of how it was affecting my emotional and energetic space.

Honestly, I wallowed in it for a while, but soon remembered an affirmation I’ve been using for several years now, “Life is happening for me, not to me.”

Often, when we are faced with challenging situations, as we inevitably will do, I believe it’s our higher- self presenting aspects of us and/or situations that may no longer serve us.

With the orchestrated help of the Universe, situations are created that may appear to be negative but are really signposts or blessings in disguise.

I know this is a tough pill to swallow, especially when ‘stuff’ seems to be splattering all over the place, figuratively speaking of course. Nevertheless, if we allow ourselves to become quiet amidst the storm, we will see the opportunity being lit by the challenge.

During my stay in St. Lucia, while visiting the famous, majestic Pitons, besides being completely blown away by the twin mountains' allure, a profound realization came to me.

Those mountains which are now a major tourist attraction and a spiritual sanctuary for some, was once a source of great misery for the island.

For those mountains to be present today, a catastrophic earthquake would have occurred. This destructive, life altering natural phenomenon would have macerated life on the island but would have also birthed the two magnificent mountains.

This is also true for our personal lives. Sometimes, things, people and situations cause us great discomfort and pain and may also dismantle structures in our lives.

However, this is really an opening for us to become more aware of something new and possibly transformational occurring.

Currently, this is my truth. Many challenging situations are showing up to help me see what I’ve otherwise been blind to because change is required. My way of being with the matters presented is no longer serving me and these beautifully orchestrated opportunities are presenting themselves to show this to me.

I agree, choosing to see challenges that are usually painful and energy consuming, in such a light, takes practice but it’s a worthwhile practice.

The challenges we sometimes face is similar to a light appearing on a car’s dashboard. The light functions by letting us know that a part of the vehicle needs attention and possibly change is on the horizon. If the light does not appear, we would continue driving and operating the vehicle normally, while possibly causing damage.

When challenges and issues appear, they serve by helping us to see the areas of our life that require attention.

This simple, yet powerful purview adjustment has the potential to change the way you experience any situation. It helps to move you from a state of life happening to you, into a more empowered state of life happening for you.

Embracing the notion that life is happening for you, despite how the situation might appear, opens you up to see what is being shown and to the immense opportunities of transformation being presented.

I am sure if you look back at some of the major life challenges you experienced in the past, you can point to the lessons presented and the growth and expansion you experienced as a result.

Many times, we are unable to see this truth, while we are smack dab in the middle of the experience because we are inundated and confused by the overwhelming emotions and thoughts about the situation.

However, if we make it a practice to choose to see life as happening for us, by being open to all of life, in every moment, when we are presented with challenges, we will naturally apply this approach to those situations as well.

Introducing the affirmation, “Life is happening for me, not to me,” into your daily affairs has the potential to positively impact the way you experience change/challenges, which are essentially opportunities for your growth and expansion.
