Sing Your Song

Published on

It is my heart's firm conviction that each of us has a song we alone are meant to sing. This song was written on our souls before we came into this realm. This song is our rendition to the world, it is our gift.

We all become aware of this song from a very early age. It is evidenced in the things that bring us joy, the activities that cease to feel like work and the interests that light us up and ignite our souls.

Despite the joy we feel and the immense pleasure we experience while uncovering the words to our song, many of us however, for various reasons chose to sing other songs. This choice, nonetheless, does not stop the insatiable yearning within our hearts for our song to be rendered. In fact, the desire only continues to grow.

For several years, I felt the unquenchable urge to sing my song, to share the melodies of my heart. However, I was either dissuaded by the opinions of others or lacked the clarity and confidence to spend time unearthing and expressing my song.

I have no regrets of my past choices to sing other songs because each song I sang that was not my song, drew me closer to the one that was custom made for me. Those other songs helped me to get clear on my song, equipped me with better vocal abilities and gave me the tools and skills I needed to effectively deliver my song.

However, the longer I ignored and suppressed my song's melody the more unhappy, unsatisfied and purposeless I felt.

The truth is, so many of us stand in our own way. We allow our fears, doubts, insecurities, beliefs, impatience and the opinions of others to prevent us from discovering our song and boldly and freely singing it.

The unfortunate reality is the longer we allow ourselves to be inundated by these interferences, the longer we deny ourselves the bliss and joy associated with singing our song. Additionally, we deny the world of the richness and impact our song was meant to give.

As with everything in life, we get to choose. We can continue singing other songs and die with the melody and words of our song still written on our hearts or boldly and courageously learn the words to our song and share its magic with the world.
